The ESB has led on the preparation of an evidence-based city region Employment and Skills Strategy that articulates the skills needs for our key sectors/drivers :
- Manufacturing/ Advance Manufacturing
- Finance and Business Services
- Hospitality, Leisure, Travel and Tourism
- Creative Content Industries (Creative Industries/ Digital Industries/ Design)
- Future Low Carbon Employment Opportunities
Based on a series of consultation events and presentations to the wider business community, the Employment and Skills Board is now developing a delivery plan which will help to address the issues identified in the strategy. The five strategic objectives within the strategy are:
- Improve skills and boost employment in selected key sectors
- Increase employer and individual investment in skills across the city region
- Enable those out of work to compete in the labour market by ensuring that
they have the necessary skills - Promote better information for learners, employers, colleges, universities and
training providers to make more informed decisions - Create an aspirational and innovative enterprise culture
Recent announcements by the coalition government on skills and further education policies, as well as the Government’s commitment to empowerment through local enterprise partnerships (LEPs), will most definitely bring an exciting new opportunity to work collectively to tackle jobs and skills challenges across a wider, more joined-up economic agenda.
