Areas of Work: Green Economy

Loading...

The Leeds City Region Local Enterprise’s long term ambition is for ‘A world-leading dynamic and sustainable low carbon economy that balances economic growth with a high quality of life for everyone.’ A substantial and continued decrease in carbon emissions, alongside an increase in GVA and employment, is a key factor in measuring the success of the partnership.

The city region’s approach to the Green Economy is threefold:

  • Mitigation: Decoupling carbon emissions from economic growth within the city region, providing strong leadership and a long-term policy framework that will encourage a confident market and exploring innovative approaches to reducing energy demand

  • Adaptation: Reducing the impacts of unavoidable climate change, providing a resilient environment to aid investment, particularly using green infrastructure interventions, working with city region local authorities to deliver investment priorities identified in the LCR Green Infrastructure Strategy

  • Growth: Identifying and maximising the benefits to the city region arising from developing a low carbon economy, working to unlock the potential of city region businesses and workforce to capitalise on emerging green technologies.

In January 2012, the Leeds City Region established the Green Economy Panel, an advisory body bringing together leadership and expertise in the low carbon transition.

Details of the Panel Members are available here.

The Green Economy Panel will develop a 12 month action plan for its activities in the first quarter of 2012.
