Adequate supply of good quality housing offering is a vital ingredient for sustainable communities. The New Growth Point (NGP) initiative seeks to provide funding to tackle infrastructure constraints and deliver sustainable growth through provision of a choice of types and tenures.
Following the success in becoming a New Growth Point in 2007, the Partnership submitted a Programme of Development focused on the districts of Barnsley, Calderdale and Wakefield.
The Programme set out detailed housing growth proposals in the three districts and how this growth would contribute to wider city region objectives.
Importantly, it also set out the infrastructure constraints and the funding requirements to unlock an array of sites for development.
Based on the Programme, the Partnership was successful in getting a £5.1m funding for the first three years of the NGP Programme.
The Partnership is now working to unlock early delivery of housing sites and develop areas where housing can be delivered in the longer term.
