This publication sets out the collective vision of the Leeds City Region as an Innovation Capital. It outlines a programme of activity that will enable business to flourish through innovation and enterprise.

Analysis of how the economic downturn has affected UK Cities, including recommendations to policy makers for minimizing the impact and preparing for the upturn. Key to the recommendations for central Government are greater freedoms and flexibilities to city regions with a particular focus on the two city region pilots - Leeds and Manchester.

 
Leeds City Region has a real opportunity to work collectively to exploit its current strengths and build the
innovation capacity of the city region both in recession and for the recovery.

This report identifies the city region's strenghts and challenges and makes a series of recomendations that will help develop long term innovation capacity in the city region.

In order to explore the future of the UK business landscape and assess future business models, HSBC commissioned the ‘Future of Business’ report. According to findings new entrepreneurial landscapes will emerge over the coming decades redefining centres for capital and business. Traditional economics will give way to new business practices whilst a shift in economic landscapes will see the creation of ‘super cities’. Investment in new technologies and innovation will see, amongst others, Leeds developing into a robotics ‘hot spot’, whilst York will become a centre for innovation in biotechnology.

The Leeds City Region has one of the largest groupings of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Europe and is internationally renowned for its research, innovation, and for being a great place to study. This brochure showcases how our HEIs are working with business, individuals and communities across the city region.

A report from UK based financial services leaders to Government, outlining a fifteen year financial framework on which to base policy and initiatives. Delivering these robust skills and innovation frameworks will support the Leeds City Region’s aspirations on developing the skills and innovation agendas in order to ensure that the UK and its regions remain a “centre of excellence” for financial services.

A strategic plan identifying key areas where investment in growth, building manufacturing and services can speed up economic recovery and aid global competitiveness. This plan goes hand-in-hand with Leeds City Region innovation priorities in utilising the city region’s research power and entrepreneurial spirit to develop a world leading innovation hub in the North.

Study looking at the factors affecting how localities will weather the recession, concluding that in the current economic climate devolution of economic decision making to functional economic areas and individual local authorities is of ever greater importance.
