Areas of Work: Transport
Targeted investment in improved transport links, within the city region and beyond, is of pressing importance to the future growth and prosperity of the city region economy.
Action for 2012 -13
Via the Deal for Cities process, collaborate with DfT to deliver LCR transport ambitions, including devolved funding and the local appraisal of major transport schemes, and to strengthen local arrangements to take the decisions on investment priorities.
To develop the evidence base and put the case to Government and the transport industry for schemes identified in the LCR 20-year Transport Strategy, including rapid transit, rail electrification and in the longer term, High Speed Rail.
Recognising that poor connectivity is a brake on growth, to pursue new local and national funding streams which maximise the net economic impact (GVA and jobs) on the City Region economy.
To work in partnership with other City Regions where this will stimultate further growth. Improved transport links to Greater Manchester would for example create an economic zone accounting for 10% of the national economy.
